Lady who tested positive mid-flight on way to Iceland - how it was handled

If you missed this story on the national news this morning, you will find it amazing in sooo many ways: How the passenger chose to handle it, how the crew was so kind, and (even) the surprising unlikely event that she realized and tested positive during the flight and quickly thought of the safety of her fellow passengers, etc.

Those who are choosing to travel during the pandemic have to be prepared for soooo many unforeseen circumstances....remaining nimble, accepting, and realizing the best-laid plans can quickly go by the wayside.

Be safe and have hope for the future. Happy, Safe, Healthy New Year to all!

Interesting story, that attendant went above and beyond.

However ... Even stuck in the loo, everyone on the plane was still sharing the same air with her.

Imagine having been the passenger who was seated next to or in front of her :o Also wonder how many others have similar things happen (maybe with lesser symptoms) who are not so forthcoming.

According to Icelandair website, vaccinated Americans don't need a test to enter Iceland.

I'm skeptical. Could all of this been a scam to get people to her tiktok site?

But to what end? Just for clicks? Are you saying a school teacher would fake a covid positive test as well as entering quarantine in Iceland (one would assume another covid test was administered in Iceland as confirmation), not to mention risk her career if a scam was committed and exposed? Just to get views?

I would suggest that testing during a flight is counter productive. Wear your mask, double mask, but test before or after-not during. As a fellow passenger, I would probably have been more upset with losing bathroom access.

This sounds very strange to me. She says she felt a sore throat halfway into the flight, took the test, and then had to isolate in the loo for 5 hours. But the total flight time from Chicago to Iceland is 6 hours, so halfway would be 3 hours, not 5. And she had her phone to tell her the time.

And why did she take her shirt off? I did not watch the video, but the selfie shows from below her shoulders up, and she is just wearing a bra.

Seems like a stunt to me. How much did she pay for her quarantine hotel ? . . Or does Iceland cover that for tourists who test positive?

Yes, you do need to provide a covid test result to enter Iceland. If you are from the US and fully. vaccinated, here is the entry requirement.

"You are allowed to enter Iceland if you provide a negative PCR or antigen test prior to boarding. You are not required to be tested at the border or to quarantine upon arrival."

Iceland covers the cost of quarantine for visitors, included is housing as well as three meals a day.

All that said, I do think this story is a bit fishy. IMO, I think she was looking for attention, via Tik Tok as already mentioned.

Well, did she return to her seat for landing? As we all know there are no seatbelts in the lav.

I'd have liked to have read that article but I get "access denied". boo hiss

I was talking with my spouse about this story last night, and I also mentioned the "what about the lack of a seat belt for landing?"

He thought that, maybe, the pandemic allows more latitude for flight attendants to make exceptions (such as a case like this), but I think FAA rules are FAA rules to be followed rather strictly. But, you can pretty much bet that if she had hit her head or cracked her teeth on the restroom sink, had there been a really rough landing........how would the story have ended? I hope the flight attendant(s) does(do) not lose job(s) over this hitting the media.

Yep, the bra photo was odd....if she was hot and needed to cool off, well, one would think the LAST thing someone would want to do is post such a picture on social media, appearing to glam it up. Do people get paid for more posts on Tik-Tok...........asks the clueless boomer? Maybe if they are an "internet influencer"? I did not watch the video, but there was no mention of brand names of her bra, glasses, etc. (which I think link back to revenue per click....correct or wrong?). I truly do not know...color me clueless.

I jokingly call that bathroom "her private room with room service, too."

The whole thing is strange, with lots of follow-up questions. Maybe one of the Forum posters has a child/grandchild at the school where she teaches...it is a small world afterall. Or maybe she will show up at a RS Forum group get-together. If so, do tell.....................

All the DIY covid tests I find indicate its takes 10-15 minutes to get results.

How did she get hers "in like, 2 seconds"

Still the issue of the math on how long 'half way' into the flight is.

And back to my earlier question (above), it is now revealed she was going to Switzerland, which requires a test, and not to Iceland.

Cannot help but think I smell fish has been out of the fridge too long.

I presume it was a lateral flow test that we are all doing every few days and the result comes through in 5 min ish.

Carol--We bought some lateral flow tests on Amazon and have seen them in the drugstores all over here, well, when they are in stock. Lately there has been a run on them, but even last week everyone in our family was able to find some.

I've used 4 different brands of self-tests, and they all required waiting 15 minutes before checking for results.

During one of my antigen tests in France at my neighborhood pharmacy, the nurse who swabbed me asked me to remain seated while she added the solution and got the (positive) result. I waited for only a couple of minutes. Very fast.

Just saw her own video--unusual reaction for someone whose vacation was just ruined. And everyone on the plane was deprived a toilet while she's lap dancing on the pot.

I didnt realise that, we are being given boxes of 25 and being asked to test before any social gathering, trip to cinema or crowded place. Appreciate now I am very lucky x
