Rick Steves is matching to $500,000 on his Bread for the World and I think he should be given a handshake for doing that. That is not a small amount of change.

That is wonderful! He does so much for the local community as well, so this does not surprise me at all.

It is generous of him, no doubt. It isn’t an organization that I choose to support as I prefer direct aid to the hungry, but that is the beauty of multiple options. Everyone can find some organization to support that resonates with them. The key is that all of us that are well resourced (that would be anyone who can afford international travel) are doing our parts to address the needs of that international community.

I believe he has done that for the last many years. Bread for the World is, according to their own webpage, an "advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world." I agree that he has been very charitable and this is not the extent of what he has done/does do.
