Knives on trains and in museums

Hi, I will be traveling within France for a couple weeks, and would like to take a small (2.75" blade) knife with me for picnics, etc. I will have it in checked luggage for the flight, but will this be a problem on trains and musuems? Thanks

You should be OK. There is no security screening for trains other than the EStar through the tunnel between Paris and London. Most musuems require that bags be checked but don't look inside them. We have always carried a folding knife for picnic with no questions.

When entering the Accademia Museum in Florence in July, I FORGOT that I had a metal, butter knife in my satchel. There I am emptying the whole bag to find my knife. So, just depends on the museum and what they consider not safe. I did have another knife in the car for our daily sandwiches. I also brought along a small, plastic cutting board and a small cooler that can fold flat. Don't forget the wine bottle opener. Have fun.

HI we just got back from Paris last week. My husband also had a knife with him in his day pack. The only place that took the knife was at the Sainte-Chapella church. They had airport type screening because it is in the same complex as their Palais de Justice. (France's Supreme court). They took the knife away but at the end of the tour my husband just had to go back to security to pick it up. We did not have to check our bags anywhere (unlike in Italy were most places had us check our bags). In the Louvre they had airport type security but the person was not looking at the screen but talking to someone else and no one questioned the knife. We went on the Eurostar also and I don't think their was any problem with him carrying on the knife.
