Kindle ereader to Kindle Fire upgrade

I've been reading thru the Fire specs, I see lots of amazing upgrades, but I don't see that the Fire has the same non-reflective dislay where one can read a Kindle in bright sunlight with no glare. Heve any Kindle ereaders users here updgraded to the any of the Kindle Fire versions from one of the basic ereaders? Does the Fire display allow for reading in bright sunlught with no glare like the e-reader?

I'm still using my old ereader, but I don't believe the Kindle Fire can do what you want. It was designed as a competitor to the iPad, not as an upgraded Kindle.

Elaine, the new Fire does not have the non-glare surface like the basic Kindle reader. If you're looking for a device that is primarily for reading, I wouldn't upgrade to the Fire (or iPad for that matter) - the screens are just too shiny for reading in a well lit area (in my opinion, anyway).

THANKS CL - That was exactly the info I was looking for. I had looked at the Kindle Fire at Staples, but in the store with the flourescent lighting - I couldn't be sure. I'll keep my current Kindle for reading.

Elaine, the Kindle Fire screen is pretty much like an iPad's. My friend has one and I tried it, but I'm partial to my e-ink Kindle. You can buy an anti-glare screen protector but it still has some glare in bright sunlight. I'm upgrading to the Kindle Paperwhite, I'm receiving mine on the 26th. It's a better upgrade if you are using your Kindle exclusively to read e-books.
