First off, I will be staying in hostels, and I'm trying to be as budget conscious as possible. I am thinking about bringing a small insulated lunch bag so I can keep things like some lunch meat,cheese, beer/drinks, cold. Has anyone ever tried this? My concern is where I would find ice. OR, if i brought a freezer pack, where I could find a freezer. I don't remember many hostels having fridges/freezers available to use when i traveled a couple years ago. (Will be in France). Thanks!

We've always been able to get a few cups of ice from a McDonald's when we needed it. Take some quart sized ziploc bags to put the ice in before placing it in the lunch bag. I would think that 2 medium cups full of ice would work.
