Keeping my camera charged and dry in the UK

I am planning on bringing my Canon Rebel T2i to Great Britain with me this July. The camera's battery charger says input: AC 100-240V, 50/60Hz... Does this mean I will just need a plug adapter, or will I need to get a voltage converter as well? I am also concerned about keeping my camera dry while hiking the wet Scottish countryside. I don't want to miss that perfect shot on the Isle of Skye due to rain! Does anyone have tips? Thank you!

Emily, I use Canon Cameras exclusively, so use the same type of Chargers. The Charger supplied with your Camera will work fine in Europe with only an inexpensive Plug Adapter. Note that the Plug Adapters used in the U.K. are different than for the continent. The U.K. style have three large rectangular pins (the third pin in the ungrounded model is usually made of plastic). I would highly recommend taking AT LEAST two Plug Adapters in case you "misplace" one! There are a variety of Rain Covers available for dSLR Cameras, in various price ranges. At the "high end of the scale", check www.thinktankphoto.com as they have some good rain covers. At the "other end of the scale", have a look at www.fotosharp.com/camera_rain_covers.html. I've used the optechusa.com/rainsleeve.html in the past for "light duty" use, and it's worked well. I'd suggest visiting one of the larger Camera stores in your area, as I'm sure they'll have a good selecction to choose from. Cheers!

Emily, Have a great trip! I did a photo workshop on Skye one year and really enjoyed it. You'll be so happy with your pictures. Are you taking a tri-pod? That workshop was the first time I worked with a tripod and I would definitely recommend taking one if you are looking to shoot landscapes and water. I've not used the covers that Ken suggests, but it sounds like something I want to investigate. What I have used is a holster type holder that slide onto my backpack waist belt. I can move it in and out of it quickly. I've also tucked it inside my goretex jacket as well. ; ) You haven't asked, but i would strongly recommend that you take good water proof hiking boots with you. The paths are rocky, and wet and slippery and wonderful. ; ) Of course, a goretex or other water proof jacket is essential. Personally, I like one with a hood so that I can keep my hands free for photos. Are you heading up toward Ullapool? If you are there is a great woolen shop that has the best sweaters. It's worth saving up! Pam

Cheaper option? Bring a couple of plastic shopping bags along, wrap the body of the camera in the plastic and snap away. Pros do it all the time when nothing else is handy.
