I am seeking advice for a family trip to Europe next June. I have been to Europe many times, but my family has never been. I will be bringing my wife, 2 teenagers (16 & 14), and an 8 year old.
So far, I have planned a two+ week trip with 6 or 7 countries. I know the biggest mistake is trying to see too much at once, but there is a lot they want to see. In our travels, we have always preferred to “do our own thing” so we can experience the culture so this is not a tour or anything. I would be open to a tour, but have further research to do. My friends did a tour last year and saw a lot, but they wished they had more freedom to roam as well.
Here is what I have so far:
London, England - 2-3 days
Brussels, Belgium - 1 day
Paris, France - 2-3 days
Zurich, Switzerland (and surroundings) - 1-2 days
Innsbruck, Austria - 1 day
Milan, Italy (and surroundings) 1-2 days
Barcelona, Spain - 2-3 days
This travel consists of the trains, maybe renting a car, maybe a short flight, etc. I haven’t finalized that yet, just trying to cover the bases at this point. Switzerland is gorgeous but very pricey. Also I plan to drive the Italian Riviera and go through Monaco, but not sure how long that will take yet. I also may skip Italy completely and give us more time through Nice and Spain. Spain is my favorite country and my wife is imperative we spend at least 2 days in Barcelona. I may also eliminate Belgium and take chunnel straight to Paris.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
