JFK terminal help

Hi all, wasn’t sure which forum to put this in but here goes.

I have a Norse Air flight arriving into JFK at 10 pm, too late to catch a connecting flight to my home state. No worries, just stay at an airport hotel…except the cheapest hotel rated 8 or higher on booking .com is almost $400 a night! I have stayed in nyc before like this and it’s always been closer to $240, otherwise I might have done this differently.

We therefore were thinking about catching an early flight out the next day and just staying at the airport overnight. That said, for safety reasons I would prefer to stay behind security.

We will need to claim baggage immediately after our flight in from Europe, then take them to probably another terminal (and thus outside security, because jfk is special) to go through security again, catch our onward flight and hang out until said flight.

So. My question is: if I have, say, a 6 am flight on delta and boarding passes, would security let us through around 11:30 or 12 the night before? Or would we be stuck in the pre security area until later in the morning??

It’s really up to the TSA agents on duty. A lot of them would say no some of them would say yes.

Probably around 1 AM however you’d be completely clear because it be the same day

If you are flying Delta, you have some options.

T4 at JFK is staffed 24/7 and some shops/food places are open around the clock.

There is also a Minute Suites in T4 where you can rent a room by the hour. It's past security.

The downside is you can't enter the secure area until the day of your flight which means after midnight.

Stay at the TWA Hotel, it is a former terminal of TWA. It is within the airport.
It is not cheap, but we spent about $300 for a night there.

The TWA is now running about $400 a night. And in my opinion is one of the biggest ripoff hotels I’ve ever stayed in. I paid $400 for a hotel with torn carpets, surly staff and a dirty room. Yeah, I won’t be back

I know most of the hotels at JFK. If you tell me the date, I can look to see if anything is available for under $400.

However.....be aware....at JFK, you have to take the Airtrain to Federal Circle then wait for the hotel to send a shuttle. This, including immigration, can be at least an hour.

On return, you'll have to get a 4 AM shuttle back to the airport for a 6 AM flight.

Not a lot of time at a hotel.

BTW, if you don't have Global Entry, download the Mobile Passport Control App and learn how to use it. It will save you lots of time getting through immigration at JFK.

I do the residence Inn or the Fairfield Inn. They both get decent reviews. I’ve had a good experience at both of them and if you monitor them and have AAA, you can usually get them in the $250 range.

You might do better with some of those looking at the hotel website instead of booking.com. Booking does not show AAA discounts for example
