Je suis Charlie!

A sad day for Paris, and for mankind. I just want to express support for our friends there after what's happened. Press freedom takes people who are willing to put it all on the line for what they believe, however controversial. We all benefit from their work in a free society.

I think we are all shocked at the cold blooded brutality of this horrid act of violence.

Freedom of the press should not be repressed.

My heart goes out to friends in Paris. My heart also goes out to the city itself and all who live there. Thanks for the many good times I've had there and for all the helpfulness I've encountered. Thanks for the great meals and amazing sights and lots of laughs. I'm sure I'm not alone in considering Paris as one of my homes away from home. There is nothing I can do in the current situation except hang my head in sadness and then whisper and then shout "Je suis Charlie!"

The news of the shooting yesterday upset me very much. Considering the past attacks on the magazine, the employees were and are even more brave and dedicated to the cause and importance of freedom of speech. Je suis Charlie. Nous sommes Charlie!

I am heart broken by what took place yesterday, for my beloved Paris and for all of us. The vicious evil of some is shocking. Je suis Charlie.

Je suis Charlie aussi.

I have been talking to a friend who is in Paris now.. ( he lives in Belgium but goes to Paris every week for business).. he says its a sad.. and special time there right now.. more then ever people are open to each other.. supporting each other.. greeting each other.. ( normally French are more reserved with strangers, but now.. he says they seem more united and open to each other)

Pat, I have heard that sentiment too, it's very nice. And the photographs portraying the simple act of holding a pen in the air in tribute and protest are extremely moving. It's an odd thing how tragedy brings people together, but it surely does.

I went down to the port of Marseille (near to where I work) and heard the ships all sounding their horns in respect to the victims. On a nearby square, people were standing there, many holding up signs: "Je suis Charlie". I wished I had a pen on me to hold up, but I didn't, but regardless we are all Charlie.

I am also happy to see that RS has left up this thread.. unlike TA that keeps removing any threads that have any mention of the situation at all in Paris.. true censorship going on there..

To Ian,

Thank you for sharing the story about the ships sounding their horns in respect for all the victims --
that must have been a very poignant moment... It's so sad...
You are so right... we are all Charlie...

I was in Paris in September with my best friend who is Muslim from north Africa. He is just as shocked and upset. He posted on the US embassy website to apologize after the Bengazhi attack. We must remember not to hate a person because of their religion.
Je suis Charlie.

In the grocery store incident, a Muslim employee hid six hostages in the basement and used his cell to be on contact with police.

There are many great people of Muslim faith. I am lucky to have one as my best friend.

These evil criminals are no more Muslim than I am. Despite what they say. A true Muslim would never do what deranged terrorists are doing in many parts of the world. Intelligent people know Muslims are not to blame.
