January Honeymoon in Munich/Prague?

Hello all! I am planning our winter honeymoon, and considering a Munich/Prague combo. We'll be arriving just after the New Year (NYE wedding), and staying for about 10 days. I've been to Munich, and loved it, but have not been in the winter time. I've never been to Prague but can see the allure of a romantic winter getaway there. What are your thoughts on travel between the two cities, weather at that time of year, and romance factor? Any suggestions on small towns nearby that we can check out for a day or overnight? I've heard of Cesky Krumlov and will certainly add that in if we land on Prague. Just looking for general thoughts/guidelines. Or, other suggestions for Europe in January?

Background - I love travel; my fiance has not done much of it. It is also important that we go somewhere that feels safe. With the state of things right now, I know that isn't a guarantee, but safer=better. I love packing my trips full of sights and activities - that somewhat stresses my fiance out, so we'll need a good gentle mix of relaxation and sightseeing!

Thanks, travelers!

Other than summer - I've only been to Munich in March, and it was cold with some snow. We love Munich, too. But we've often thought about how nice it would be to visit Horn-Schwangau in winter (near to Neuschwanstein) and have a horse drawn sleigh ride. Have a look at some pictures here:

We've also stayed at the Hotel Helmerhof and had a wonderful experience with them.

The big issue is that you need to be prepared for the weather. We were in Prague over New Years a couple of years ago and the temps were in the low teens most of the time. We were prepared for cold weather but it was still a damp, bone chilling the cold that we are not use to in Colorado. Not sure what early Jan is like. We were there during the Christmas markets and we really enjoyed it but it was crowded.

A check of weather.com, shows it was a rare day this past January that either city had a day time high above freezing..

What part of Alaska do you live in that caused you to think of these cities for a winter visit?

I am sure even Rick would have a checked bag for what you are contemplating.

As for safety, there are probably more auto fatalities, on any given day, in the US than civilian deaths by terrorist actions.

Life always has some danger. Just stay alert
