If in some small way the movie franchise has been responsible for lowering airfares and hotel rates...I say keep making the films!!!!! Perhaps they could set future sequels in Venice, Amsterdam or London :) LOL

I actually saw the first Taken at a cinema in Amsterdam about a year before it was released in the US. It had a different title: 96 Hours I hated the film with the passion, shoot em up flicks aren't my cup of tea but I'm a sucker for any film shot on location in Europe. The locals inside the cinema ate it up and gave it a huge round of applause when the credits started rolling. Despite that I was certain this film would be a direct to video release in the US. Long story short the of movie of course was a huge hit in the US, making boat loads of money. I seem to recall Entertainment Weekly getting some flack from it's readers because they refused to review it, the premise being so dumb:)

...and before anyone slams Hollywood for this franchise keep in mind that Taken is an english language French film: directed and written by Frenchmen/financed and released by a French Studio.

I wonder if Chinese were afraid to send their daughters to the U.S. after "Big Trouble in Little China" came out?

Considering events in Paris this morning, the timing of this post could hardly be worse.

Hmmm, so I'm thinking it's maybe a good thing that I have not seen any of these movies. I will carry on in blissful ignorance.

I watched the first one on TV - no way would I pay to see that crap - mainly because I was curious about where in the city it was filmed, as another poster said. The storyline is ridiculous and feels really contrived. These movies are the Hollywood machine at its best, scaring people and making them want to come right back for more.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention in my original post.....not only was the plot to Taken preposterous, so was Liam Neeson's toupee, and his terrible American accent. Apparently retired CIA operatives are being recruited right off the streets of Belfast;)

Makes me wonder if people have been reluctant to travel to tropical islands because of the chance that someone has decided to clone dinosaurs. No one wants to go and be chased and eaten by a dinosaur, well maybe not everyone there could be a person or two.

Taken 3 opens here today but after checking some of the reviews, I doubt that I'll be wasting $9 for a ticket. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 12% rating from the reviewers but 74% of the audience liked it (not sure what that means). Of course these ratings could change now as more people see the movie. The common thread with the reviewers is that "the only thing that gets taken here is your money".

I doubt it. The vast majority of movie goers love violent actions films. It's bread and butter to the movie industry. They are catering to the demand.

Ken I think Emma is right.. people that elect to pay to go to such a movie are already predisposed to terrible taste.. lol
