Itinerary Suggestions - In to Frankfurt out of Milan Early September

Hello all!

I was wondering if I could get some suggestions for an itinerary for an upcoming Europe trip. My wife and I are flying into Frankfurt on August 30th and flying out of Milan on September 7th. We are flexible with getting an intra-Europe flight and repositioning, especially on the inbound flight.

Last year, we did Rome --> Florence --> Cinque Terre --> Venice. It was an amazing trip, Italy is such a fantastic place. Then earlier this year in April, we did Amsterdam --> Paris. I didn't enjoy this trip as much as Italy, but we did have a blast.

I'm tempted to go back and do Milan + Florence/Tuscany, but I feel like there is so much to see in Europe that I have analysis paralysis and can't figure out where to prioritize. Milan/Tuscany....Milan/Switzerland....Prague/Vienna/Milan....I can't decide! If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Since you are flying out of Milan, Italy is the most efficient itinerary. You could go directly to Florence from FRA then spend a week in Tuscany, maybe rent a car and pick two hill towns to stay and day tour for 7 nights. Then drop the car and train to Milan for your last night.

You could take a train to Lucerne, spend 3 nights there, then train to the Jungfrau Region (Lauterbrunnen Valley) for 4 nights, and again, last night in Milan. No car needed at all.

Unless you have a specific list for Milan, it probably is not a place you’d want to spend much time on a short trip.
