I congratulate you on having worked with a map to figure out a multi-country loop that doesn't have your driving to the far reaches of each country. So many people fail to look at a map.

However, I feel like you're cutting places really short, and I think you may have chosen the less interesting side of Lake Balaton. (I've only been to the north side.)

Although I am very fond of both Ljubljana and Zagreb, I suggest dropping them from this trip. Or perhaps drop one of them so you can have a better visit to the other.

I am struck that all you time/distance calculations work out to average 50-60 mph..( 90-100 kph) which to me seems extraordinarily optimistic. If the times are from something like google maps, mapquest etc, I would add a 10-20% fudge factor to account for traffic and other real world delays.

Well, driving times need to include pit stops, navigating in Old World cities, looking for parking. But more to the point, is it convenient to have a car if you are going to spend your time in cities where you don't need (or even want) to drive?

You looked at a map and planned it out. Great. I think it is a bit rushed. Yes, you only have a few hours drive time, but do not forget about waking up, packing, breakfast, checking out, walking to car if not outside, you will generally lose half a day for each change of hotel. So for each two night stay, you have one full day in the city plus part of the arrival day. Don't forget some tourist sites may be closed certain days of the week.

How old is your child? You may need to adjust your schedule for them they always go slower and than you want. We visit the important sites first thing in the morning. Kids have more patience then.

Good Luck.
