Itinerary in Ireland

We are two couples in our 60's traveling to Ireland for the first time and our planned arrival would be late August to early September 2015. We've been told to fly in and out of Shannon and we'll rent a car. We first found a place to rent in Limerick, however, because it seemed we would spend much of our time in the car, we decided to split our time in other locations.

We've located properties that are available to rent in Doolin and on Dingle Peninsula. We were planning to stay in Doolin for 4 nights and the Dingle Peninsula 6 nights and our last night back in Shannon nearer the airport. However, as I've read some other traveler's comments, I'm wondering if we should plan to stay in the Kenmare or Kinsale area 2 nights, cutting our stay in Dingle. Would adding this additional stop be a better plan in order to see areas such as Killarney National Park and Rock of Cashel or can we easily visit these areas from Dingle? Also, would 4 nights in Doolin and the Dingle area be enough time to enjoy it at a leisurely pace? We're flexible with our time.

I stayed in Dingle for three nights on my first trip to Ireland and wished I had more time. The second trip I stayed five nights and thought it was a little long. We went to Killarney National Park for a day trip and thought it was a little far for a day trip. Plus we felt a little rushed. I like your idea to spend a couple of days in Kenmare. That way you would be closer to Killarney and the Ring of Kerry and would give you more time there. I like Kinsale a lot too.
