Itinerary Ideas - 18 days

Hi! Everyone was so helpful for our anniversary trip in September - that we're planning to go back in May 2011. We loved the art and history from Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome - and we loved the beauty of Switzerland (Lucerne and BO)! We enjoy the outdoors and biking/touring on our own. We took the trains everywhere on our last trip and were comfortable city hopping with our backpacks or willing to take ryanair/easy jet. Tickets have not been purchased yet so everything is still in planning stages- 18 days - husband/wife team (early 30s) full of energy and adventure. So here's what we were thinking: ATL - Stockholm Coppenhagen Berlin - great wall, add munich? Prague Vienna Salzburg (Sound of Music tour)
Back to ATL Specific days have not been decided for each city - wondering if we could add more or switch out and see England and Netherlands instead of Austria. Appreciate any advice... Thanks,

With your start in Stockholm, you've worked out a good itinerary. If you do the trip as outlined, you'll be flying home from Munich - a much more hassle free airport than some others, with direct Delta flights to ATL and Air France via Paris. I would not add more locations. If substituting England and the Netherlands for Austria, I'd try to fly home from Amsterdam. Like Munich's airport, Schiphol is easy to get to and around in. Also, you might want to check the schedules of airberlin.com, like Ryanair, they fly all over Europe.

Hi Salsachica. Do your 18 days include arrival and departure? If so, you only have 16 days for travel. But as it stands now, your itinerary is 6 cities in 18 days which comes out to 3 days per city without accounting for travel time to each new location. First, I would say to fly into your first destination city and out of your last; that will avoid backtracking and save time and money right off the bat. Second, I wouldn't advise adding anything else. You might want to concentrate on just one area of Europe instead of two - spend your 18 days in Stockholm, Copenhagen, and maybe Amsterdam; or go to Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg.

Your itinerary looks good esp if you start in Stockholm and finish either in Munich or Vienna. Since you are young and have done it before, you should have no problems moving between cities. There is no need to limit yourself to just a few places. I myself like to sample places. Depending on how you allocate your time to the cities, you could do a day trip to Bratislava from Vienna. You could also add Munich assuming Salzburg and Copenhagen are limited to 2 days each. Lots of possibilities - just do your research on trains/planes/transport so that you chose the most efficient and cost effective way to move about.

Thanks for your replies. We'll focus on one area so we don't lose valuable trip time.
We're thinking the 18 days of trip time - not including the open jaw flight in/out.
