Wish I were in Scotland or Wales! We’re a couple of miles from Wimbledon and have had to come to the pub to stay alive. It is HOT.
Glad we’re not in Spain. :-)
I've been reading all these hot headlines for the past few days and feeling sympathy for everyone affected. Stay safe everyone! This is why my wife and I are restricting all our future Europe travels to January from now on. Even British Columbia where we're from is insanely hot in the summer yet people still visit it droves. Gah.
While the information is always appreciated, it's also often overly generalized or over reacted to as journalism isn't very intent on being balanced.
Today at 4pm I took my usual outside café seat. Its beautiful. Of course I am in the shade and there is the usual Budapest breeze . My phone says 88F and 22% humidity. And this has been all day or better. Nothing special just sort of average. Not a drop of sweat on anyone despite what 88F might imply.
I would imagine the same from Vienna to Bucharest.
On the Cumbrian coast as I write it is throwing it down with rain, literally bouncing off the pavement.
Once again the BBC counts London as all that matters in UK
So because parts of the south are experiencing record temperatures the media shouldn't report it because it's raining up north?
I think the point isn’t that the BBC shouldn’t report on hot London, but they should also report on the cool north. But that is, in fact exactly what the linked article does do — two headlines, one about heat records south, the other that the north is not hot. I have found the BBC generally to be pretty thorough about UK weather all over the country.
And a heat record in Essex is clearly more newsworthy than cool weather and a lack of a heat record in the north, which is kind of a “dog doesn’t bite man” story.
And from recent reports they seem to have under estimated how fast the heat is rising. Slashdot is showing a NYT story saying so but I don't read that. They link (one of?) the original study though:

We follow methods as closely as possible to those used in the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Working Group One report.
The indicators show that human activities are increasing the Earth's energy imbalance and driving faster sea-level rise compared to the AR6 assessment.
Today we had 32°C in Schwerin (Northern Germany) and expect tomorrow 36-37°C. Staying inside is the best idea. And I tend to search for personal items which I likely still have in my car which stands in an underground parking garage. Of course I do not need the items but the refreshing cooler temperatures.
Wish I were in Scotland or Wales!
Me too
I'm in Scotland. Yesterday it hit 23C. (74F). The locals were complaining about the heat.
Today it's cooler. Tomorrow I head to London. Luckily, it's supposed to cool down.
Our family of 11…5 grade school age grandkids somehow survived cruising/visiting the Med… Rome, Florence and Pompeii July 2023… with their daily record breaking heat. 105 plus. We were prepared…A/C hotels while staying on land and morning touring….Evening walks. Pompeii tour of course the most challenging! A whole family went missing on that tour which forced us longer to wait!! Uhgg. Umbrellas, hats, hand spritzers, portable fans! Colosseum even gave us all cold bottles of water! If one can only travel with kids in the summer…between their sports and school…its limiting but necessary! Would we do it again? YES….nxt year… London, France, Spain, Portugal…cruise along the Atlantic this time….end of July. Oh my!

I always like to check if it's taps aff weather in Scotland by using the site I'll link to below.
If you're coming down to London, you're missing a taps aff day in Glasgow tomorrow.
Hahaha I used to have a shortcut to the tapsaff website on my phone just because it gave me a smile
