Going to London then Isle of Wight for vacation and would like to spend a few days in Normandy. What is the best way to get there? We are planning on having a rental car. Should we drive, train or ferry?

You can go from Portsmouth to Caen on Brittany Ferries. http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/home Check with your car rental company if you can and how much it is to take the car to France but if you want a car the other side it is usually best to rent over there. Also the UK car steering wheel will be on the "wrong" side for French roads. BTW it is expensive to take a car over to the IoW. Check with your accom whether they have an arrangement with the ferry companies to get you a cheaper fare. We have done this in the past.
