Isle of Capri

Is it worth going to the Isle of Capri in the afternoon? What is the latest time you can come back from the Isle of Capri?

Where would you be visiting from? If it's Sorrento or Positano, no problem. If it's Rome, quite a problem. Capri is a pleasant day trip and doesn't have to take too long. Ride the funicular to the town square, stroll around, have a drink and return. I've no idea how late return ferries run but, again, it would depend on where you are returning to. Naples has lots of ferries. Positano not so many.

Most day-trippers leave by 6 PM in season as the frequency of the ferries really drops off after that. I would go earlier in the day as it's a great island to explore. Better yet, if you can, SPEND the night! The island atmosphere changes after all the day-trippers leave. The locals come out, restaurants crank up - it's a different place at night!

Denise, I also agree with Ron - go early! I was there in May, and if you want to visit both Capri and Annacapri, you'll need lots of time.

One point to mention though - Capri gets LOTS of visitors every day, so if you see a huge queue at the Funicular when you're returning to the Harbour area, you might want to allow extra funds in your budget to take a Taxi. Also, the restaurants, etc. are somewhat expensive so be prepared for that.

I found Capri to be an extremely beautiful location, and was glad I took a day trip there (was staying in Positano at the time). Perhaps next time I'll have time for Ischia or Procida.

Happy travels!

Thank you for all the replies.

I would love to spend a whole day in Capri but not sure we will have time. We are arriving in Sorrento in the afternoon and thought we could go to the Isle of Capri that afternoon. We are going to Pompeii & Mount Vesuvius one day and then the SITA bus to Amalfi Coast the other day.

The day we arrive in Sorrento is my daughters 15th birthday and we would like to do something special.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
