Island of Menorca vs Island of Krk

Hello! Looking for advice again.

My husband and I are between two trips.

  1. Staying on the island of Menorca for 9 days
  2. Splitting our vacation up and do a little time in Slovenia and the rest of the time on the island of Krk Croatia

We love lower tourist areas, beautiful beaches, history, and quaint villages. Both islands have came up in our research and while they are hard to compare, we are trying to decide between the two.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know much about Krk. However, I went to Menorca in 2017/2018 for one week. You can easily fly into Menorca, but I am not sure if you can fly into Krk. There are thousands of islands in Croatia to choose from.

I think that 9 days in Menorca is a little long.

Menorca is a very popular tourist destination, but it’s low key without any rowdy nightlife etc. A lot of families go there for summer holidays.

If you were going in peak season there would be plenty of people.

There is an airport on Krk. It is called Rijeka Airport. Rijeka is a port city which is connected to Krk by a bridge.

Nine days on a large island like Menorca sounds delightful to me.
Nine days for parts of Slovenia and Krk could be a little tight, so ultimately, it would depend on the travel logistics. That is what I would compare, more than the destinations--as both will be amazing. I have not been to Krk yet, but I enjoyed northern Croatia very much.

Minorca is lovely, and its two towns are certainly quaint. But note that 9 nights would be a languid visit—plenty of time to read books and take naps on sun loungers.

I'm always on board for a nap-themed trip, but many North Americans seem to have a hard time thinking of Europe for that. (And fairly so—it's cheaper and easier to nap on a beach in Mexico.)

We don't travel to relax anywhere. We are retired and can easily relax at home. We like to see the site, history, art or scenic places.

Why spend the airfare to go to Europe to stay in one place and relax when you can do that cheaper in North America?

I think there is a misconception that a rural, nature-focused trip does not have cultural value. You can get the best of both worlds--language, history, cuisine--while enjoying these kinds of places.
