Is Three hours enough time for a layover?

Hey All,

I'm leaving soon for Europe and traveling to the JFK (NYC) airport. I get in at 2pm and then I leave for Austria at 5:40p. Is three hours enough time for a layover? Initially I thought it was enough time but my father-in-law who is in aviation says that it maybe tight.

Are there alot of you who've missed flights at JFK? I've used LGA before but not JFK. I remember LGA being ridiculous in terms of size and scope. I have an option to change my
booking with expedia for an earlier flight I'm just wondering if i should. I'd like to avoid the penalities and
the flight itself has gone up to $300 from $80 when I booked it.

Thanks!
Ian

You seem to have almost 4 hours and I think it is fine. I usually have a bit less than 3 hours and I have had no problems. It is coming back when you might have problems. Going through customs takes for ever! Last time I thought I would be late for my plane but thank good that one was late leaving!

Yes, I've caught connecting flights to Europe from JFK with no problem - this will be enough time.

When booking my trip to Africa last fall, I allowed a minimum of 3 hours at every airport for layovers. There was no way on this Earth I would get through Schiphol in less than an hour. We had no problems, and I don't think you will either.
Enjoy your trip!

Boarding international flights at most US airports (except SF) is just like boarding domestic flights except that due to the size of the aircraft they start earlier. However, they typically use domestic terminals and gates. I think 2 hours is more than okay so 3.5 should certainly be fine, even if you have to change termianls at JFK.
