I'll be leaving from near Venice, stopping in the alps, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Prague, and then flying out of Vienna. Is this doable in 18 days? Any suggestions or changes?
It's doable, but stressful. I think you have 1-2 stops too many when you consider travel time.
Hi Ben, I would say slow down spend more time in less cities! Is this your first time in Europe? Have fun. Monte
If you devise an itinerary you budget your time and money. You can create an itinerary, showing activity columns across the top, such as travel, finding rooms, dining, sight seeing, sleep and other.
List the days down the left side. Fill in estimated time for each activity each day and dollar costs for each one.
When you learn the distances between towns and travel time on train or by car, you will know how much time you must commit for each day. You may find that you have planned too much.
Once you put your travel plans on paper, fit it into your time limit and revise it you can more effectively plan your trip.
Ben,
It's doable, but how long do you expect to stay in each location? And what do you like to do? How are you going to travel?
I've done more than you want to in 3 weeks by car. I started in Amsterdam 4 days, Paris 5 days, a few days in Loire Valley, 4 days in Nice(including the whole Golden Coast), then up in Chamonix for 2 days, Benelux a few days,Northern Holland a day, back in Amsterdam.
I also wouldn't enjoy this so much--too much transit. But if you do it you can probably improve things a little by reordering, e.g. Amst.-Paris-Alps-Munich-Prague-Vienna-Venice, or vice versa.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not as interested in museums and things like that. I generally like to just experience a place if that makes any sense. I like seeing the different architectures and landscapes of an area.
I think I may take Adam's suggestion and reverse it going to Vienna, Prague, Munich, etc. I will have already spent a month in and around Venice by the time I start my trip so there will be no time wasted there.
