Is this a reasonable iten. for London ?

Have researched for hours and hours. We are a family of 4 (2 kids ages 10 and 11: who LOVE museums)

Sept. 3: arrive Heathrow 8:30 a.m.- drop off luggage at hotel in Ascot, visit Windsor Castle
4th: drop off luggage at hotel in Bath, tour Bath
5th: HOPE to figure out a way to squeeze in Stonehenge, get to London and either (a) go to Westminster Abbey (is close to our hotel) or (b) row in Hyde Park
6th: Harry Potter tour (goes to Oxford)
7th: Buckingham P, Traf. Squ, and National Gallery
8th: British Mus, and Library
9th: St. Paul's Cath, Globe at 2:00, London Eye afterwards
10th: Depart
If anyone has a thought or comment on this plan, we would greatly appreciate hearing your words of wisdom.
Thank you for your time.

You should easily be able to hit Stonehenge on the way to Bathe after visiting Windsor castle with a picinic as well. There is a good supermarket in Windsor with everything you will need. That gives you an easy day on 5th to tour and get back to London.

Your schedule is very full and prob doable only for 2 very hi energy adults however you will be running thru the greatest of museums (also large collections).Consider deleting Stonehenge it is difficult to reach w/o a car espec then going back to London after.
Select 1 museum for half day visit then see outdoor landmarks Trafalgar etc. walking, skip Globe. Also for such a short trip I would skip Bath you will be spending too much time traveling to and from.In other words high grade what is really imp. to you and family and enjoy. It is all wonderful!

If you do go to the Globe (and I'll tell you, I had no interest in going there but was talked into it by my travel companions; I ended up really enjoying it), your kids might be interested in visiting the Golden Hinde, a replica of Sir Francis Drake's galleon. It's actually quite fun, and educational as well, and it's very close to the Globe. www.goldenhinde.org

melissa,

IMHO, this Itinerary if FAR too busy for what appears to be a one week trip. Given the fact that you LOVE museums, my suggestion would be to limit your visit to London this time, and put Bath and Stonehenge on the list for next time. This Itinerary doesn't seem to allow much time for travel time between locations (even in London), and also seems to rush through the places you will be visiting. There's easily enough to keep you occupied in London for a week!

Also, I'm assuming that you're departing from home on Sept. 2? You'll lose the first day in flight times, and will be jet-lagged for a few days after so you won't be up to best "touring speed".

Be sure to check Rick's Guidebooks for opening times of the various Museums you will be visiting, and also the best method of getting to them (usuallly The Tube is the quickest and most efficient). Given the ages of your kids, you might enjoy the Imperial War Museum also - lots of interesting items to look at, and visitors could easily spend half a day or more exploring the Museum. I also found HMS Belfast (moored on the south bank of the Thames near the Tower Bridge) to be very interesting. The Cabinet War Rooms are another possibility. Of course, there's also the Tower of London and the Crown Jewels!

Good luck and happy travels!

You might consider splitting the British Museum and the British Library into two different days. There's so much to see, I would find it overwhelming for one day. You also might have to choose the best weather day for the eye, so maybe have interchangeable afternoons. Do you think the kids would enjoy the Tower of London? My daughter loved the Beefeater tour we took when she was 13, she was really into history of the royals.
