Is there anybody like Rick who does a good travel log for the U.S.

Trip Advisor is a good resource, both the individual state forums and in particular the National Park sub forums. If you are planning multi-state, the Road Trips forum is great.

There is a great series of guidebooks for Hawaii - google up "Hawaii Revealed" and you'll find their books and website. Cant help with the rest of US.

Not aware of any RS types for the Western US. If you're planning to head to Oregon, PM me and I can give you some suggestions. Or check out our Travel Oregon website here for ideas. There may be some specialty folks depending on your interests (wine, hiking, parks, cities, etc.) - depends on your interest of course.
