Is there any hope (or chatter..)..

......around the USA stopping Covid testing as a pre-entry requirement for air passengers from European countries any time soon?
Canada is stopping the pre testing requirements to enter Canada, by any means ,land, sea or air; on April 1st.
I'm asking because I'm trying to put together flight itineraries.

Thanks.
I realise no one can predict the future.

I really hope they don’t stop testing to re-enter the US.
I just read on the Rick Steves FB a post were 11 tour members out of 18 were positive for Covid and quarantined in Venice. They were not on a RS tour and were supposedly masked at all times except for meals.
Do you want one of them sitting next to you on your flight back?

The airline industry last week again lobbied the Administration to roll back the pre-flight testing requirement for Americans flying home. While the February request came while cases were surging, now they are rapidly dropping. And with many European countries ( France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland ). dropping most of their prevention steps, it seems highly likely the U.S. will too—possibly by May. Masks may still be required on flights, but I believe the Covid testing requirement for flights will soon be gone.

I would be happier about the testing to return to the US if I thought it actually helped. I know of 3-4 people who tested negative, but then were positive within 24 hours of return. Hard to believe they weren't shedding virus on the flight.

I am guessing the requirement might be lifted by summer.

No matter what happens, we just comply with what's required and roll with the flow.

When we came home from Germany 10/21, the only check we had going or coming was in a sit down restaurant in Berlin.

Highly unlikely they were . Plus you were all masked on the flight.

I REALLY hope they dont' drop mask requirements

That was exactly what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I felt rough for a couple of days, decided to do a LF test and it was negative so I put it down to a general cold. A few days later I was still feeling unwell so tested again and it was positive and remained so for the next couple of tests.

All we do is keep an eye on what is happening upstream. What are statistics for pre-flight tests showing? And what are trends?

Sadly, Covid is now becoming an industry.

Agreed. I am not optimistic about it, so I'll keep my N94 on for our flights in May and hope for the best. Aside from BA2 or some other new variant closing borders again, my worst nightmare for this trip is catching Covid on the flight to Europe...
