We are thinking about a trip to South America, specifically buenos aires, rio, São Paulo and iguazu falls. Can anyone recommend a site similar to Rick steves. I count on rick for all of our European planning. What to do?
Look at the Lonely Planet books on Argentina, and Brazil.
Ricardo Estaban?
Thanks but I was looking for more of a forum like this.
Rick actually had some info on at least Central America at one time, not really a guide, just trip report type stuff.
Other than that, as was mentioned, Lonely Planet certainly covers the area and has many low cost options. I do find them to be somewhat dry, covers the facts, sometimes encyclopedic, not quite a Rick Steves guide.
I do like the Let's Go series, bit more fun, low cost focus, maybe like Lonely Planet maybe more of a Student Traveler Vibe. Unfortunately, destinations are limited, they do have a Buenos Aires book I would check out, but not much for Brazil.
Edited to add that Lonely Planet does have a forum called the Thorntree that can be helpful, Let's Go does not have an online forum, but has some resources available (probably for a fee)

...OK, Tom beat me to the punchline.
More seriously, we do have the Beyond Europe section here where you are welcome to ask your South America travel questions. Otherwise, LP's Thorntree would probably work. I'd like to think that we are the big player for European travel forums. ;)

Think he is one of a kind....
Carol,
just my opinion and how i see things.
but if you think about it, Rick gives you the tools to travel. Its up to the individual to go beyond that.
So, with that said, you may just want to ask on here since I'm sure that there have been others thats "been there, done that" in the places you want to go even though Rick hasn't done those places yet.
Happy trails.
He is the most interesting man in the world. Stay thirsty, my friends.
