If they're getting the Legion of Honor pinned to their chest, it's just fine!
That is what the Marines at the Consulate and Embassy wear at work too, if they aren't in uniform.
Hee hee
But really, hear hear. Very impressive young men. You wouldn't believe how much of the news cycle their story is occupying. Can't imagine how (justifiably) proud their families must be.
Well said, Karen, well said.
Absolutely.
All this concern about "fashion" kind of takes a back seat to this recognition. Well done, guys!
And, as I heard several newscasters say, it emphasizes that these young men were on VACATION.
How many of us would have dress attire packed on the off-chance we were to receive a Legion on Honor pin while on vacation!? LOL.
What a blessing those young men were in that train car, and also that they so capably took action. Real heroes, so sure!!
Wonderful post, Karen :)
There will probably be a 'run' on khakis and polo shirts in France.
Two of the shirts looked quite new and similar during yesterday's press conference. Did the Embassy spring for some new polos and khakis?
These guys are true heroes, but not good at getting free stuff;) I'll bet they could have walked into any Bespoke tailor in Paris and gotten a tailored suit for free!
Karen, wonderful title, wonderful topic!
And Yes, huge thanks to all who foiled the attempt.
I think they quickly borrowed clothes from the Marines at the Embassy.
Karen wins best thread title for 2015.
Do what they did...wear anything you want!
But did anyone notice if they were wearing white tennis shoes?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Jo's right... you win best thread title (of all)!!
I love seeing this story on the news... over & over. Never gets old. Nice to see an uplifting story with a happy ending for a change. I can just imagine how proud their parents are! Amazing young men!
Moms were flown over for the ceremony, so maybe they brought dressier shoes for the guys.
Awww, their moms got to go? That's sweet.
These three brave men grew up right here in a Sacramento suburb. My friend's son went to school and played high school basketball with Spencer Stone. Anthony Sadler goes to college at Sacramento State. Apparently there will be a big parade here for them, if they are willing. They all seem pretty modest, so who knows if they will agree to it. We couldn't be more proud of our hometown guys. I'm happy to hear it has been on the news as much other places as it has been here. They deserve all the recognition.
And, the great thing is that their faces are the ones we're seeing over and over in the media and their names are the ones we're remembering. If only that could last. Three cheers for those wonderful young men!
Your theory is good, Michael, at any other time of the year. But all the bespoke tailors in Paris on a Sunday in August are en vacances elsewhere!!! (Remember, the 3 heroes were at the Elysée Palace at something like 9 am Monday! And I don't think they got to Paris until sometime Saturday afternoon.
It seems the fashion editor at the Washington Post agrees
Laura, terrific story!
Yes, absolutely. The whole article is terrific, here's a great portion:
Their clothes said so much about happenstance and understatement, which in turn spoke eloquently about what unfolded on the train and how they have responded to it. These are the clothes of a casual holiday, not one focused on fancy dinners, formal gatherings or a bit of business on the side. They are clothes that tend to pinpoint Americans in a crowd: tourist fare that is often amiably mocked, sometimes derided. They are the sort of ensembles that young men wear when they are expected to dress up but can’t really see themselves putting on a suit because, really, is all that fuss necessary?
But mostly, the polo shirts and khakis seemed pitch perfect because they underscored a kind of nonchalant but respectful ease that Sadler, Skarlatos and Stone have exuded since being thrust into the media spotlight. They have not played down the danger they faced nor the seriousness of what unfolded in tackling the suspect, Ayoub el-Khazzani.
But the violence in the USA seems to have taken its toll.
This just in from the BBC:
Spencer Stone, hailed as a hero after a French train terror attack,
has been stabbed in Sacramento, California. He was attacked while
defending a friend, and is currently in a stable condition at a local
hospital, an Air Force official told the BBC. Police say the stabbing
took place on a Sacramento street corner in the early hours after an
argument escalated. Sacramento Police Officer Traci Trapani says no
arrests have been made and they do not yet have a description.
