I am hoping to take my small family to Barcelona in November but airfare is not working in my favor. What are your thoughts as travellers about only going to one city for five days? Thank you!!!!
I think that's good enough of time to check out all the important ones. My friend went to Berlin for three days, and was actually able to got the most out of it.
Ciao, Andrea. Five days is NOT too short a time for Barcelona...but is your question really, "Is 5 days too short a time to justify a European trip from the States?" Now on that front, boy, to me, it's questionable. I mean by the time you get settled in over there and shake off the jet-lag in a day or two, you've got a few days left before you make the return trip home. I tend to view 7 days as a min. European stay...and Madrid is just 2.5 hours via high-speed AVE train from Barcelona...maybe 3 in one city and 4 in the other? Just a thought.
Andrea, the airlines haven't released their fall sale fares yet-I'm still getting summer sale emails. (I know because I'm going in October and am waiting for the sale offer emails from Air France, British Air, etc to come rolling in!). So, the airfare still might work in your favor.
I think 5 days is not enough time to justify a trip to Europe. With travel time you only have 3 days. I went for 3 weeks last year and wished for more (not all in one city).
In my opinion, five full days would be more than enough time for Barcelona alone. It would be a little hurried & you’ll miss a few things, but it’s even possible to do both Barcelona and Madrid in five full days, dedicating three to one and two to the other (some might disagree, but it can be done if you’re okay with a fast pace). You could fly into Barcelona, take the AVE to Madrid, and fly out of Madrid (or reverse it). Travel time would need to be in addition to the five full days. Another option is Barcelona and a bit of Catalunya. I agree that it’s best to have more time & I usually budget a minimum of two weeks, but my own circumstances have changed a little this year, so I can only squeeze in five full days in November to visit Madrid and surrounding environs. I took what I could get, and airfare was a super bargain. Go for it.
I agree that airfare for November hasn't come out yet. Keep your eyes open, and sign up for emails from various carriers who flies to Barcelona.
You can also try flying into a major city like London, and take a discount airline like Click air to Barcelona. That's what I did, and saved $200 per person.
I think 5 days in Barcelona is fine. In fact, I did 3 days and we felt we got a great taste of the city, and didn't feel we missed much.
