Is a Double bed in France big enough for 2 people?

My husband and I are taking our first trip to Europe this December!
I'm a little confused because the book says the sleep code for beds include "D=Double/Twin". But I'm worried because I know a double to mean FULL size which would be big enough. and a TWIN to be like a single which would be too small.

Help! Is it just a typo or do we run the risk of getting there and a Double being the size of a twin?

Thanks!

A double bed is what we would call a full size bed. Sometimes it means two twin beds pushed together. But you shouldn't find the two of you trying to fit into one twin bed. ; ) Pam

A double might not be as big as a queen sized bed but should sleep two. If the double is produced by putting two singles together it can be like a king sized bed ;-) We've encountered both situations under the same description.

Our experience with that code is that you will either have a standard double bed for two or two twin beds for two. The twin beds may or maynot be sheeted together to make one bed.

Rooms in Europe are different than the U.S.

A "double" is a full sized bed or two single beds pushed together. This room is for one or two people.

A "twin" is two single beds in a room. This room is for one or two people.

A "single" is one single bed in a room. This type of room is for one person only.

If you are requeating a double room, b ut need two separate beds, please be very careful to specify this. I ran into this in traveling with my Mother.
Often what you will get are 2 singles pushed together
as the rooms are small.

We are all guessing what you are reading. If you are reading a guide that says something like Double/Twin 90; I think that perhaps they are referring to the room size meaning a room for two, with either a double (read American full) bed or two twin beds - your option at the rate of 90 euros per night. A triple is usually a full and a twin but it can be three twins.

Two twins pushed together are not the same as an American queen. An American queen is a longer bed.
