Hello Everyone, I currently own an 8GB IPod touch (which is really only 6GB after you factor in the stuff Apple preloads on it), but I also have an IPad 2. I am not planning on taking the Ipad to Europe becuase I am afraid of losing it/getting damaged (I'm a klutz). I have ICloud setup on my laptop. For my trip to Istanbul this summer, I would like to load some movies on my Ipod Touch for the planeride; however I don't know if I have enough 'space' on the Touch. For example, I looked at 2 or 3 movies on Itunes and they each take about 3 or 4 GB of space. Does that mean I can only load one of the movies (because 4 + 3 GB = 7GB and I really only effectively have 6GB available)? Or, because I have almost 5 GB space left on ICloud, does this mean I can store some of the movies there? I apologize if I should know this, but I really don't get it. I know you can buy extra ICloud space (that would transfer to the Ipod Touch, right?), but I don't want to spend $20.00 extra just to rent a few movies from Itunes for a 2-week vacation. Any advice/help would be appreciated! THANKS!
Gretchen, I suggest you go to your nearest Apple Store. The store Geniuses are extremely helpful and then you'll know you will receive the correct answer. I love my Apple Store Geniuses and their products. My iPod Touch is 32 GB, holds several movies. Wray
Don't bother with ICloud, you need a fast internet connection to use it, and the Wifi at most hotels is very slow. With Itunes make sure you select the SD version of the movie you want to purchase, and not the HD version. It will take up less space and with a screen so small you don't need HD:) IMO a better option is to purchase and install a DVD/Blu ray "ripping" program like this on your desktop: http://www.pavtube.com/blu-ray-ripper/ . You can customize the size of the video so it will be appropriate for a device with a small screen. On my trip to Europe three weeks ago I was able to store about ten movies with a file size of 500MB each on my 8gb Touch. It worked great.
Michael, I could kiss you! I looked into what you suggested even though I was admittedly afraid of trying to figure this all out. In the meantime while roaming the internet looking for 'how-to' videos of using the program you mentioned with the Touch, I found out I could easily rip movies to a micro SD card and play them on my Nook (which has a larger screen). Now, I only have to bring my Nook instead of the Nook and the Touch. Problem solved! Now, I realize this technology isn't new, but I've always thought it would be super-complex. Thanks for letting me know it's not that hard! I LOVE this Helpline and all those who help out! :)
