Going to Germany, i have the plug converter to charge my IPOD and camera but do I need a converter also? Thank you!
Not for the iPod. Not sure about the camera. Probably not though. Look at your owner's manual.
Look at the unit that you use to charge your equipment. If it reads something like "Input 100-240 volts," then, no, you will not need a power converter, since it will adjust automatically to Europe's 220 volts. If it only reads "Input 110 volts," then you will need a power converter.
My experience in 15 years of travel is that you need a converter and an adapter everywhere you go. The Target stores sell a cheap kit which includes both.
Carl...read the post above yours. In fact, most electronic equipment these days is "universal" in its power supplies, obviating the need for power converters.
We had the digital and cam corder....only had to use the adapter for both.
Debra, I took my iPod with me twice last year to Italy. All I needed was a plug adapter. I also brought along a small unit that takes 2 AA batteries that I used on the long plane ride. This is a great accessory that doesn't take up too much room and can save the day.
I almost bought a converter, but the fine print on the pkg. stated it was not for electronic devices, only heat-type devices like dryers and irons. I'll try plugging in my wife's nano in Italy-if it goes all aflame, I'll let you know.
This question is 14 months old......the OP has probably been to Europe and returned.
Tim,
It's important that you check the Charger you'll be using for your Wife's IPod Nano to ensure this is designed for "world operation" from 100-240 VAC.
IPods normally charge via a USB cable supplied with them, so if you're using something else you'll need to verify the Input Voltage. I've been using One of these Chargers on recent trips and it's worked well (Plug Adapters required of course).
Cheers!
