The IPhone Tom Tom GPS app was highly recommended to me at the local Apple store for use in France because it can operate without a cellular connection and not using data. Has anyone else had an experience with this?
Offline GPS aps such as TomTom work exactly that way: they preload all the maps and information on your smartphone via iTunes (or Google Play for that matter), and then they rely on the GPS satellite signaling, which is free for obvious reasons (!), to get the position, combining both to display your location, speed, give directions etc.
In your experience, does it work well? I sure don't want to carry a separate GPS device. Thanks
