Hi Folks, I am to old to know this stuff and while it has been posted, I am still not quite sure. Traveling to London, Germany, Austria, and Italia. To charge an IPhone and IPod what do I need. Also, and please make this clear/easy. So that my daughter can call in these countries (to make reservations, family, etc..) and back to USA what is the best plan for the IPhone? Thanks for your help.
Steve
I'm facing the same nightmare, avoiding a cell bill that will rival the cost of a plane ticket. These tips come from reading their execution in practice will be tested: Skype accounts offer free skype-skype calls while on wifi. Credits can be purchased for skype-phone/cell calls Use airplane mode to prevent all but wifi connections
If you find a website you think you will use, use the send to ( looks like a box with an arrow coming out) so you can get to the site w/o having to search for it. If you find a useful pdf, like a map or brochure, use the "open it" in ibooks. This will save it so that you don't have to use data to download it again.
You need only a plug adapter. The products are built for both 110 and 220 electricity. For my MacBook and my iPad, I splurged $30 for the adapters from Apple,, but any $2 British or continental adapters will work. You need one model for Britain and another that works for Germany, Austria, and Italy.
Steve, AFIAK, the Chargers for both iPhone or iPod are designed for multi-voltage operation, so will operate fine on 220 VAC electrical systems. However, two different Plug Adaptors will be needed, one for the U.K. and one for continental Europe. The U.K. model has large rectangular pins, while the European model has small round pins. Check magellans.com for details. I'd suggest packing at least two of each type, as they're easy to misplace. Whether or not your iPhone will even work in Europe will depend on which model it is, and which network you're with. It would help if you could provide a bit of further information on that. Happy travels!
