It will work fine for the internet but not phone service. Verizon uses a different technology than European based system.

If it is on the Verizon network it will not work either. Using any US based cell service is expensive regardless of the carrier. And the use if 3G/4G networks are excessively expensive into the hundreds of dollars. The only reasonable alternative is an unlocked phone and purchase a local sim card when you get there.

THanks... I guess that will be the only option... I guess if the internet works I can always communicate that way huh? I mean it is my honeymoon... LOL.. Thanks. On the topic of buying a cheapy and just get phone cards, do you have any suggestions? WE will be in Amsterdam, France, London and Ireland?

Reid look for Paul 's 8/24 post on this message board "For overseas DATA use, local prepaid is best solution." Read it. Very informative and will provide you with the answers and solutions you seek if you wish to use your cell on your trip.

There were several articles this month in NY Times on this topic. Check the travel section. Pam

IT'S YOUR HONEY MOON! Who cares about a phone. Check your email with your iPhone at wifi spots and enjoy the vacation from the rest of us here in the States.

Reid, Verizon does have quad band cell phones that you can use in Europe. If you go to their website you can see the choices. They also will "loan/rent" you a phone that will work in Europe at a 'reduced" rate. In some cases they will mail it to you for nothing. My cousin did this for our trip to Spain this June. She had to have the ability to make a receive important calls from home, and this took care of her problem. Calls cost her $.99/ minute, and but texts were pretty cheap. Again, check out their web site. She did NOT need data; all she wanted was a the ability to make calls and to text. If you need data, local pre-paid. with an unlocked quad ban phone that you buy on Ebay, etc., is the best game in town.
