Are the little boxes on my charging cords for my ipad2 and iphone 4s the transformer I need to charge in Paris? I have regular wall adapters for paris, but need to know if I need to buy a transformer.
Brenda, If you look on the bottom of the "little box", you should see the wording "Input 100-240 VAC ~ 50/60 Hz" (you'll probably need a magnifying glass). That means the Chargers will work fine in Europe and you'll only need Plug Adaptors specific to the countries you're visiting. For Paris, the two pin (ungrounded) Euro/Schuko Adaptor is the model to use. If you'll also be travelling in the U.K., a different Adaptor will be required. Of equal concern is the fact that you'll be travelling with an iPhone. Which network are you with? You'll need to be EXTREMELY careful with data roaming or you could come home to find a HUGE bill waiting (possibly in the five figure range). You may find it helpful to read this recent article: http://seattletimes.com/html/travel/2020784714_internationalphonechargesxml.html If you plan on roaming with your home network for voice and text, you may want to consider one of their "travel packs" to reduce the costs slightly. Note that if anyone calls your number while you're in Europe, they'll only be making a local call so no charges. OTOH, you'll be paying for EACH incoming call. Calls received in the wee hours of the morning from someone that didn't bother to check the time difference are especially annoying! Happy travels!
hi, this question comes up every day. you can look at your adapters. It should say something like input voltage 110/220 VAC. If it has something like that one it, then youre Good To Go (GTG) and all you would need is an ADAPTER. the thingy that allows you to plug in your charger to the wall outlets where you are going. happy trails. and dont forget to pry your face off of your electronics and see where you are and enjoy the cool place youre visiting.
Thanks all for your advice. I already have the outlet adapters from a previous trip. I will be sure and shut off the data. The last time I was in Paris, Verizon had given me a loaner phone that was global, but it didn't work when I showed up in Paris. SO.... I was totally without phone the whole trip. I didn't miss it at all and had a great time anyway. I will probably not even carry the iphone around with me as something else to take care of, but will have it in Paris if needed.
