Interrail Pass discounts offered by thetrainhacker.com

Planning to repeat my Interrail experience in southern Europe next year I came across thetrainhacker.com, which proposed: "Get the latest Interrail coupon code and discount offers for unlimited rail travel across Europe. 33% OFF Youth, 20% OFF Senior, 10% OFF Adult and children go FREE. SAVE £213* on your 2019/2020 Interrail trip!"

But I have never managed to catch sight of a coupon code! All their links lead only to the current 10% off deal by Interrail. I even found a table quoting 340 euros for a 2020 Senior Global Pass, but clicking on it still didn't help. The standard price is 444 euros, the 10% offer 400 until end 2019, the price I paid last year.
It doesn't look like a scam.

Can anyone help me to realise this offer? (I'm the 82-year-old backpack/hosteller currently serialising my budget 2019 trip on the Trip Reports page.)

I doubt that the extra coupon code exists. It seems like a pretty misleading web page, or else mistakenly posting old information with the wrong end dates. There were slightly different "Black Friday" deals that already expired.

Yes, Laura, thanks! Somewhere in my perusals there I saw the date of December 2, and perhaps that was the end of the special offer.

I am using the Senior Global Pass, 15 days/2 months, 2nd class.

There is currently a 10% discount if purchased prior to 12/31/19. You have 11 months from the date of stamped to activate the Pass, which then has 2 months validity to use up the 15 days...no problem, very convenient,

Keep in mind with this Pass, reserve a night train compartment seat, (4.5 Euro or something like that), you can take the night train from Cologne to Warsaw changing once in Berlin at a decent hour, arriving in the afternoon, The Pass is also valid on the Eurostar.

Thank you Fred.

When I bought my Pass last year, I was obliged to state the starting date at the moment of ordering it. I think this contradicts your statement that "You have 11 months from the date of stamped to activate the Pass, which then has 2 months validity to use up the 15 days." Please comment.

And yes, the Pass is also valid on the Eurostar, but at what price?

Hi,

I wait until I am in front of the ticket counter, usually in the Reisezentrum in Germany or SNCF in Paris Est, and tell the clerk on which day I want the Pass to start, ie, that very day or the next day. The clerk writes the start date and the end date in the spaces provided....never had a problem with this.

I even ask if s/he wants to see my passport (Reisepass vorzeigen ?), their answer is always no.

Paying for the Eurostar (London to Paris or vice versa) is included in the total Global Pass price. The EuroStar seat reservation I'll do that in London St Pancras station at a ticket counter in the evening. My B&B is right in that area in Kings Cross. I don't do that beforehand, likewise with securing a seat reservation on a TGV or ICE train or a night train when using the Pass, which on this upcoming 2020 summer trip will include a minimum of 3-4 night train rides.

Fred, thank you for that information. But unfortunately waiting at the ticket counter at the last minute will not work for me. I am obliged to state the starting date when ordering the Pass. I just did a dummy run of the order and made a screen shot of the requirement, but I don't know how to attach it here, if that is at all possible.

LAURA, do you have anything to say about the starting date requirement? Fred presumably travels by Eurail, so could that be the difference, as I live in France and am served by Interrail?
(Also, is it possible to attach a file to a post?)

Regarding Eurostar, my comment referred to the (as I understand it) excessive reservation fee charged.

PS to my last post:
My dummy order provoked an automatic response from Interrail reminding me that it "it is in (my) shopping cart gathering dust". I clicked on their Support 24/7 link, and the page was Not Found. Is it cynical of me to think (as I do): "Typical!"?

Hi, Rainbow.

At www.interrail.eu, I'm also seeing that a travel start date is required and they no longer have an instruction page for activating your pass in the train station. I'm less familiar with Interrail than Eurail, but this does seem to be one of the differences between them.

Hi,

That explains the difference. My passes have always been purchased from Eurail as I am not eligible for an Interrail Pass. Interrail do offer better deals.

When I buy a Pass from Eurail, I indicate what kind of pass, 2nd class, duration, pay for it with the credit card, and am charged no shipping fee. I also reject the travel insurance offer, totally unnecessary. The last pass I did have to pay a shipping fee since the Eurail policy had changed.

Laura: "they no longer have an instruction page for activating your pass in the train station. "

Do I understand that they used to leave the starting date open? How ridiculous to then limit it like this!

With Eurail Global Pass you can choose to indicate your start date on on-line. It's not mandatory to do so on-line.

You have 11 months from the on-line order date to activate, ie start the Pass. I've always prefer to wait until I was over there to have the Reisezentrum in Germany or the SNCF in France activate my Pass, likewise with this 15 day/2 month Global Pass.
