We are planning a trip to Spain in June and I have the following questions when unsing a Dell notebook: 1) What do you need if you are trying to access the iternet through the hotels or internet cafes WiFi? 2)What types of WiFi codes are required in hotels? Letters or numbers or both? 3)Will a standard ethernet cord work in hotels in Spain? 4)Will we need a special adaptor in the car if we want to power up the computer (for example, if driving a Renault, are the cigarette lighters standard or comparable to US automotibles?)
thanks.
In addition to Tom's most excellent answers, with which I concur, for Q1 you will need a wifi card or adaptor or built in wifi on your notebook if you want to use WIFI. Probably you have that but I have no idea how old your notebook is. Q3. Sometimes it is good to have one a couple of metres long. Q4. If you want to run your GPS at the same time you will need a splitter. Same as at home, unless your car at home has so many outlets you don't need one.
1. A hotel might be wi-fi only. It might have a computer or two in the lobby for guest use. And rarely it might have an ethernet connection in the room. In an internet cafe, you'll sit down at a computer and all you'll have to do is pay for your time. Of course a hotel might have no internet access at all. 2. If your hotel has wi-fi, they'll tell you the passcode. It could be letters, numbers, or a combination. 3. Yes. 4. Cigarette lighter connections are the same there as here.
The answers previously given are all right on target. I carry a small (Acer) computer with me, in the hotel room, just plug it in with the converter/adapter and enter the passcode and am set. Never any problem. The keyboards in the internet cafes are NOT the same as ours here in the US..will take some getting used to, even to find the "@" :-). Have used the internet cafes on some of my earlier trips, and they work fine, but they will cut off unexpectedly and you loose the letter ---
