International Calling US to Europe

I understand how international calling works within Europe and Europe to the US. Further, calling from the US to a European cell phone or landline in Europe seems simple enough as well.

That said, I will be using my US cell phone in Europe (Verizon). If someone in the US wants to call me while I'm in Europe, is there anything special that they need to do? Or, can they just call my number as if I was across the street and somehow Verizon will find me in Europe regardless of the city/country I'm in?

Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks.

As long as you still have a US phone number, they call it just as if you were next door.

Before Covid, all a person in the U.S. had to do to contact us overseas was call our regular number as usual and the system "found" us. To call the U.S., all we had to do was tap the number in our contact list and the phone did the rest. But it seems that everything related to technology is subject to change these days, so you might want to call Verizon directly. They have (or had) a dedicated number for assisstance with international plans, rates, and etc. They've always been helpful and always seem to know what they're talking about. The direct number is (or was) 1-800-711-8300. Their web site also has a list that can be printed out that will enable one to call toll free numbers from other countries.

Tom, you're on Verizon and I'm assuming you'd be using Verizon's Travel Pass or the like. All anyone will need to do is dial your usual mobile number, as they normally would. There is nothing special that a caller needs to do to call you.

Bob, TC and VAP,

Thanks so much for the info. I called the number TC suggested and they were a great help to me in setting up the right package for my needs. They also gave me the number to call for 24/7 access to International support

Thanks again.

As a Follow-up:

My wife and I will be traveling around Europe for a month (France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany). During my phone conversation with Verizon I learned that the $100 Monthly International Calling Plan gives you unlimited text and data (up to 20 GB high speed and slower speed over 20 GB of usage); It also gives you 250 minutes of voice calling. You can call Europe to Europe and Europe to US ....... looking like a "local" in each country. That is, it allows you to call within individual European countries and Europe to the US for no additional charge (up to the plan limits). For an additional $15/month you can purchase a Global Calling Plan which allows you to call across countries (France to Sweden, Norway to Germany, etc. ) for no additional charge to landlines or cell phones; except for calls to cell phones to and within Monaco ($.32/ min) and to and within Norway ($.26/minute). These two plans are pricey especially when applying them to both of our phones but it gives us total flexibility and we can essentially use our phones for a month in a manner similar to how we use them in the US today. Different countries could carry different charges. In the world of telecommunication, details matter so be sure to confirm with your provider.
