Interlaken to Cinq Terre

From one beautiful region to another. I plan on spending 3 nights in each Swiss and Italian outdoor wonderland.

What’s best way to get from interlaken to cinq terre?

I’m wondering if 7 hour train ride from interlaken vía Milan to Monterosso is my best bet? It had like 3 changes I believe.

I also plan on going to Venice. Would it make more sense to do interlaken-Venice-cinq terre instead? Or stick to interlaken-cinq terre-Venice ?

How do you define best? Either you can choose a fast route that goes through a lot of tunnels, or a slower more scenic route. But, considering that you are crossing the Alps, even the fast route will still be pretty scenic.

mex,

To begin with, some clarification. The Cinque Terre is not a destination per se. It consists of five small towns and you'll have to specify your destination town when you buy tickets.

I've made that trip a number times, and it will be pretty much a full travel day. Using Interlaken Ost and Monterosso as the departure and destination stations, the easiest solution is a departure at 07:29, arriving at 15:05 (time 7H:36M, 2 changes at Spiez and Milano Centrale). There are numerous other solutions but they're longer or involve more changes.

You can check all solutions using the Bahn.de website, but they don't sell tickets for trains originating outside Germany. If you wish to buy advance tickets, you can use the SBB or Trenitalia websites, or a reseller such as www.trainline.com (I don't believe they sell tickets for trains within Switzerland yet.... you should be able to buy tickets for the entire route at the station in Interlaken Ost).

I guess I meant most direct which still seems to be about 7 hours basically the whole day haha.

Interlaken-Venice can be done in 45 minutes less time than Interlaken-Monterosso, again assuming departure around 7:30 or 8:00. That's not a significant difference, especially if it affects what other transport you need after completing both Venice and the Cinque Terre. What I mean is, you could fly home from Venice, but would need another train ride to get home from the Cinque Terre.
