Int'l Student Identity Cards for teens?

This summer, our family, which includes 3 teens, is traveling through Europe. Because they will most likely always be with us for attractions and traveling, I am wondering if they would need an ISIC. I suppose that they could bring their school IDs, but perhaps those won't be accepted as proof of "studentship". :-)

Thanks for the feedback.

First, there little advantage to being an American student. Most of these student type of discount are only available to EU students. The few times that we actually got a discount (mostly in Spain), the high school id worked and often the passport showing their age was enough.

Age-based discounts are more likely for youths under 18. The ISIC is more for college students and the purpose of it is so museum staff don't have to try to interpret every school ID from around the world.

I've found if they are willing to give your teens a discount, they'll be happy with their student cards from school - so bring them. In some places (Italy comes to mind), they'll insist the reduction is only for EU citizens so any additional student ID won't help.

When we were on the BOE tour the summer after DD's high school graduation, she had the ISIC which was good for a number of discounts. She had not yet entered college, and I don't think she had a high school ID card. Maybe, but she had graduated by then.
