In my last post - about the RS clothesline - many people offered excellent suggestions which included "inflatable hangers" but I have never heard of these. Where does one purchase such things?
These are my favorites, and this is a great price; don't know about S&H from this company (EDIT: Yikes! I do now...)...I prefer the ones with the metal hook; the ones with the plastic hook are much more susceptible to tearing, then they're toast. Plus, if the hanger-part breaks...uh-oh. The metal ones can be removed (use the 'pillow' as a lumbar support on the airplane) and the hole for the hook is reinforced. Just my .02...(Note: after perusing the www. for these, this metal-hook style may be on its way out after 15+ years...unfortunately. Many hangers with photos of metal hooks have a note saying "Note this item has plastic hangers") You can find these - metal or plastic - at many stores...WalMart/Target types, usually your Sears/JCPenney types, and definitely at Bag and Baggage (usually in malls, I think). Also, http://www.packinglight.net/Default.aspx Search your White Pages for 'luggage/travel'-type categories for stores in your area. Or, order online - Amazon has some of these, for example. They can spring a leak, so I'd advise traveling with a couple more than you think you'll need...I use them at home all of the time, too.
I found my inflatable hangers at a travel store. If you have a travel store that carries them locally you wouldn't have to pay the shipping and handling. If you don't, it would be worth the price. I love them! We usually take 4 for the two of us.
I definitely agree with Andrea - we likeys our 'puffy hangers'! Shop around, but get some - somewhere.
I got mine at my local AAA office. (They also have a lot of RS stuff too!) You get a discount if you are a member. Pam
Also try REI - there are several in NYC area (if you're in that part of NY, my geography isn't awesome for the East Coast).
I'm just curious... why are inflatable hangers better than plastic hangers? I bring about 4 plastic ones to dry hand washed stuff, they weigh practically nothing.
Inflatable hangers hold the fabric apart so the air flows better and the clothes dry faster. I also bring a couple of plastic hangers with clips to hang pants.
I agree with the above comments. We probably use our inflatable hangers more than our travel clothesline. We also carry some of the plastic clothespegs with hooks. Handy for hanging single items (underwear, socks, etc.).
LOVE my plastic clothespegs that have hanging hooks,, great for so many things. Didn't have time to find inflateable hangers before my last trip,, had some left over balloons in the house from a party, threw them in my case,, they worked great for holding shirts apart for faster drying. They take up no space, are dirt cheap , and can be semi inflated and used in shorts, skirts and in the sleeves of clothes.
Here's some more 'puffy hangers' from The Container Store, aka Paradise LOL: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/closet/hangers/specialty?productId=10030114&N=146&Nao=20 What are y'all calling 'clothespins on a hook'? Something like this?: http://www.taylorgifts.com/item/SET_OF_5_HANGING_CLIPS/35894?src=FRGL0406&CAWELAID=847823799 One could even bring one of these for lightweight things; it would be easy enough to pack: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/laundry/dryingRacks?productId=10025593&N=77008&Nao=0 I also bring balloons; sometimes I need the extra separation between 2 layers of fabrics. And if your room is high enough and your window overlooks a busy pedestrian street, you can take them to the bathroom, fill them with water, and...um, never mind. **Sorry - don't know why none of my links worked 8^( They WILL copy-and-paste, though.
Thanks Andrea! I also bring a plastic thing that hooks over the top of a door and you can hang many hangers from it. Got mine at CVS.
I have searched for the clothespins on a hook and can't find them. Where do you buy yours?
I used to use the "balloon" type inflatable hangers until I found these: http://www.magellans.com/store/Clothing___Clothing_CareTL102 I can hang a shirt, socks and underwear from one hanger. They're not strong enough for pants though.
Andrea,, I usaully find mine at Dollar type stores.
As for the Balloon type...balloons themselves will work..plus can be given out to amuse children!
