We are going to Norway this summer and our child will be 1year old. We have a baby Bjorn but she will be to big for this. Can anyone suggest a good backpack that our baby can fit in so I can carry her around
Try some on!!! My husband at 6'3" finds a different carrier comfortable than me being a head shorter and having much narrower shoulders.
We had a combo piece that was a stroller / highchair / backpack -- took our son who was 15 months, about 26-28 pounds -- made by Kelty. Worked excellent as a chair, good as a stroller (wheels were a little small), and fair as a backpack.
I'm a big guy -- so 30-40 pounds on my back might as well be a fly -- but you need to try on what you're going to consider -- with your child (or appropriate sandbag stunt double) -- and see how it carries.
The Kelty carried a little 'far from my back', heightening the fatigue factor. Also, the way the extras stashed in the lower sling (diapers, water, formula, change of clothes... the normal extra 10 - 15 pounds...) was annoying, tended to bump against my back, and felt like it was 'cantilevered'.
I hiked several legs in the Bernese Oberland, and walked the entire Rothenburg wall, but it was nearly max what I could handle with 51 pounds(28 pounds baby, 15 pounds extra, 8 pounds stroller), for a 3-4 mile walk.
I would definitely check what Kelty offers today --
