If you could pick ONE, and only one

Country in Europe to live in, which would you pick and why?

This is based on all those amazing stories and feedback some of you have written here, and also based on the obvious love that many have for Europe.

But, you can only pick ONE country to move to and call home :-). Of course you can always travel back "home" and other countries, but based on your experience of travelling and spending time in various countries, surely there is that one place that "feels" almost like home.

No cheating! No adding a second country. This is just for fun and to maybe add a different type of discussion but also we might learn something about the country you pick.

France -- even though I have doubts about Sarkozy! I am of French heritage, and the place speaks to me.

The UK- and if I have to narrow it down even more- Scotland. Though I wonder if I could really "take" a full winter there!LOL! Guess that's when I'd do my other traveling. The beauty, peace and friendliness of everyone there is the "why".

Luxembourg....for one reason....no one else will pick it so the country will not get too crowded.

Belgium, because my fiancee is from there, she has a great job there, and I can easily get hired there in my profession.

The country I would pick would be England because my father was in the British Army during WWII, and I grew up hearing more about England than America! The very first time I visited England (back in 1985) I felt so at home.

It's interesting to read your choices and the reason why you would pick the specific country :-)

Italy--and that's why I moved here because I love it so much.

Spain - and we did move there.

As to why - as Australians with no right to live in the EU, it appeared to be the easiest of the ´mainstream´ European countries to obtain a long term visa.

Was it the right choice - over say France or Italy -both of which we love? Yes we think so - we love Spain and we can visit all of Europe so easily.

Since you've narrowed it down to one it would have to be France.

Spain- love the people, the music, the colour, the drama, the architecture and the weather. And I'm moving there in the Fall.

France, it's been my home for the past four months, and will be for another month. It took some getting used to, but I really love it here, and will be sad to leave.

I've done a lot fo travelling while over here, but my favorite part is arrving back at the airport or train station, seeing a Paul bakery and thinking "I'm home"

It would be on the continent. I've had friends that lived in Britain and could't just wander the continent at will. Each trip had to be planned.

My wife likes it warm so I could probably sell her on Italia.

With the low dollar, it might have to be Albania.

Austria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have everything. Landscape, culture, history, culinary delights, a laid-back life style and great wine :-))
After 20 years on Planet America, I returned home last summer, and I am in seventh heaven :-))

NORWAY. I felt comfortable with the people there. (You did not ask what country can we afford to live in).

England. I'd love to live in Bath, it looks beautiful and it's close enough to London for business and entertainment day trips.

France, I was born there and so could move back if I make the effort to get my EU passport/ papers..
Food, wine, museums, I don't know , just everything, plus it just feels like home.

It would have to be Italy. There are many reasons, the food, the people, the history, the difference between North and South. But one of the most important reasons to me is there sense of family and culture.

England, where my dad was born. As others have said, the first time I visited, I felt like I was HOME. Couldn't afford it, of course, but both times I've been I hated to leave. The trip this fall will coincide with the 98th (99th?) birthday of my grandmother's youngest brother.

It is so lovely to see how many of us love Europe and how much like "home" many of these countries feel to us.

For those who are not already living in their second home (lucky devils!), do you think that it is possible to maybe retire in the country of your choice? My husband and I have talked about this for years now, and still dreaming about the possibility :-)

Hands down for me it would be Germany! The reason, the people! They are so friendly and love to have a good time

Wow, France and Italy are big hits. Can't wait to see them. For me, without ever having been to Europe, it would have to be a Cotswold like village somewhere. Like others have said, it feels like home with only watching it on t.v. Be interesting to see if that changes once I've gone. For me it's the countryside and the type of people.

I know you said just one but . . . I'm torn between Switzerland and Norway. Both have such wonderful scenery and such tolerant, informed people.

But IF I have to choose, it would be Switzerland. Location, location, location. . .

Ireland, because I have citizenship and I love it there. But just about anywhere else would be a close second.

Absolutely and without a doubt Sweden. I love everything about the country, the people, the way they treat families and children, the style...everything :)
