Hi all. Was going to book a flight to Munich, then noticed that it is a Lufthansa hub and could easily get just about anywhere by just extending outgoing fllight. We've been to Western Europe several times (Paris, CT, Swiss, Rhine, etc.) and loved them all. We enjoy walking, outdoors, hiking, etc. in cities, small towns, and rural areas. Not big on museums. If you were at Munich airport and could board any outgoing flight for the first few days of your 2 week trip, which flight would you pick?
I wouldn't get on another flight in Munich... I'd board a train or bus straight to Salzburg!!! It is wonderful. Not too big, lots of lovely walks in the city and just outside it. Great day trips in the area. Wonderful markets and good food. What more would you want. If you really want to fly somewhere though, I'd probably go to Budapest. I've only been once, and that was just a short day trip. I've really wanted to go back and spend several days there. Where is the rest of your trip focused? That might make a difference in recommendations.
Okay, I've been thinking about this. ; ) I just found a map on the Lufthansa site that gives all their flights out of Munich. http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Lufthansa-Route-Map#top You have to click on the link on the right to open up the map and then wait while it loads. Athens is an early one to pop up and I'd love to revisit Athens, but it might be complicated, or at best a longer trip, to get back to Munich. So, as I scan their list Berlin, Dresden, come up fast, but so does Dubrovnik! Then there is Kiev, but like Athens is a bit distant. Milan might be nice though. ; ) So many choices I don't know if I could pick. Pam
Often overlooked but well worth the time, go to Portugal. Here is a website you can peruse discoverportugal2day.com
Hi Bob, I know this doesn't answer your specific question, but I wouldn't be taking another flight. I'd rent a car and head for Austria (Zilletal and Oetztal in particular) and then the Italian Dolomites... the Val Gardena, Alta Badia and maybe the Vinschgau/Val Venosta. Actually, that is what we usually do after flying into Munich. Paul
Hello Bob. I would not pick a flight. I would ride in a train from Munich to Austria. Did you ever go to Austria ? Did you not plan to go to Austria in this trip ?
