Ideas for a one month stay in Europe or UK in Sept-Oct

Hello,
We are looking to go to a Euopean or UK country to stay for one month and to have the ability to do day trip hikes from the town, easily travel by train to visit other areas, travel safely with other women, have access to grocery stores. We will likely have a car. We love the Alps and are considering somewhere in the Dolomites or other areas that are close to the mountains.
Thanks for any suggestions...

Look at Ortisei in the Dolomites, charming town with easy access to excellent hiking.

We did four weeks in England and South Wales in 2017 and loved it. It didn't include London, but we did much of England west and north of London as well as South Wales.

Here is my review of our drive tour:

Of course, we didn't stay in one place the entire four weeks, since we did Winchester, Bath, The Cotswolds, Warwick, York, Yorkshire Dales, Durham, Hadrian's Wall, The Lake District and five days in S. Wales.

We did use Chipping Campden as our base for 6 nights to do The Cotswolds, Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Stratford Upon Avon.

As for the Alps, I liked them when we lived in Germany for skiing in the Winter or in the Summer, not the in between months.

Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe.
