Icelandair Fares Advice

I was checking for flights the other day and found some amazing great fares on Icelandair when I wanted to travel - round trip to Paris is May/June -- and now when I look there are no economy fares on the date we want to leave or even the day before. Does anyone have experience watching Icelandair fares? Are there likely to be more seats opening up in Economy or am I out of luck? Instead of a $500 fare I'm looking at a $1500 fare on those days.. so really a big difference.. and like I said nothing the day before either. With it that high maybe I should look at other airlines. So frustrated.. Any advice appreciated.

They just had a sale and all the good bargains are gone now.

Your other posts indicate Portland is your home airport. Have you priced flights on Condor? They fly to Frankfurt from the PNW and will take you to Frankfurt and then can also sell you the Frankfurt to Paris leg. Their prices are very competitive. Their prices vary enormously day-by-day and they are least expensive when you book far in advance. I picked two random days and checked fares. One cheap option is May 24th and June 16th. Roundtrip fare for those two days is $1179. Outbound is PDX/SEA/FRA/CDG, which is a hassle, I know. Return is CDG/FRA/PDX. The nonstops from Portland to Frankfurt are Tuesdays only, I think, and they don't start until June 13th this year.

I suspect that once the 96 hour sale is done, some seats will open up at a much lower fare than $1500, but probably not anywhere near as low as the $500+. But who knows what will happen? I bought tickets on Icelandair several months ago for Boston-Paris for $596. When the 96 hour fare was announced, I checked and saw that there were a few seats around that time for $528, but I think they disappeared fast.

Yes - looks like I missed it... I had them.. and I just didn't realize it was a short term sale and now they are gone... the schedule was much much better than any alternatives - and I don't have date flexibility.. so yeah.. lesson learned.

Well I ended up just changing my date from a Friday to a Saturday... still cost us $250 X 3 over the fare I saw .. but I got around $1275 each RT to Paris.. and I added a three day free air stopover in Iceland on the return. We'll have to give up one day in Venice and I'll need to adjust the hotels there, but at least air is booked now. Otherwise we would have probably paid $1700 each and had longer flight times. I might have been able to wait longer and see if they did another sale in a few months.. but too nervous. Thanks for the suggestions.
