Iceland - 5 days in Reykjavik

Hi!
I am planning on spending five days in Reykjavik at the end of October...and then traveling around Iceland for another week.
Any suggestions for must-sees, places to eat, things to do, or places to visit for those five days?
Literature and history are interests of mine...but if anyone knows of cool/fun things that are going on around that time, it would be great to hear.
Thanks!

Check the calendar of events at Harpa. When I was there I attended a fun show called "How to Become Icelandic in 60 Minutes." It is still playing, and there are performances in late October. And there are other events at Harpa during that time as well.

I also took an outstanding tour with one of the best tour guides I've ever had anywhere. Contact Ymir at https://www.magicaliceland.is/.

I think Reykjavik is an interesting city, but it is small, and I think 5 days there is a lot if you're going to be spending all the time in the city. There are some day trips you can do to some stunning sites, but if you're going to be seeing those things during the following week, I'm not sure how to help you fill your time in Reykjavik.

There are lots of small interesting museums (National Museum of Iceland and the "Reykjavik 871 +/- 2 The Settlement Exhibition" were great) and other things to do... check out the Reykjavik website, it's excellent. In five days, you'll cover everything in a leisurely way so there's no need to prioritize "must sees". I would definitely try out some of the geothermal polls that are not the Blue Lagoon, just for comparison's sake.

This sculpture museum was also one of my favorites (it's not smack in the city center but still accessible by foot or bus):

If you have 12 days total, then in my opinion, I would definitely choose to spend 2-3 days in Reykjavik with the rest of your time spent in other parts of beautiful Iceland. It sounds as if you are only asking for suggestions for the city, so I would definitely say to take in a performance/show at the Harpa. The building itself is gorgeous! It is also very fun to take a food tour in the city as their are some interesting Icelandic choices you may not otherwise experience. You will find that it is a very walkable and friendly city, so you can just spend some time walking around without rushing.
