Iberia Airlines using AVIOS

Does anyone know if it's possible to book an open jaw ticket using AVIOS points on Iberia? I'm trying to fly Miami to Venice and return Turin to Miami. Apparently there's no way to either purchase a ticket or redeem Avios for an open jaw flight on their website.

If Iberia is like their partner British Airways, you may need to go thru their customer service telephone line (like the BA Executive Club), and you'll likely pay an extra fee for the "convenience." You can at least ask them if such an itinerary with AVIOS is possible, or what the total cost would be, before committing to it.

Thanks Cyn. What I have learned so far from Customer Contact (I won't call it service.) at Iberia is that I can buy the round trip ticket out of to and from Venice and then pay €25 to modify the ticket. What's surprising is that if you are purchasing your ticket for cash, you cannot get an open jaw option on line. Welcome to the 20th century Don Quixote!

Aren't these just two one-way tickets? The pricing in miles and taxes shouldn't change.

While it may be beneficial to have them as a roundtrip, I don't think you lose anything by booking them separately. The only issue I see is if you cancel/change your mind and need to redeposit the miles then you have multiple fees to pay.

BTW, I've had good luck with getting BA to waive the booking fees if the ticket cannot be booked online - just ask.

Arnold, thanks for your response. Unfortunately when you get two one way tix, price jumps by about 10%. If the airlines don't get you one way, they'll always find another way!!

Have you tried booking the flights through the British Airways website? Those Iberia flights might be BA codeshares and will show up on BA's website if the flights are available.

Not only are BA and Iberia in the same airline alliance, they are owned by the same company.

can you provide the details of what each leg is costing in miles and the accompanying taxes? I'm assuming since you are using Avios you are booking on the BA website - can you confirm?

These are both Iberia flights, not code shares. The Iberia flights are available among the many options on BA site but taxes/fees are approximately $70 more. Avios required are the same on both sites. Reason I'm interested in flying iberia is that transferring Amex points to either Iberia or BA before September 18th gives you a 40% bonus on the number of Avios transferred. So what would cost me 70,000 miles on Delta costs about 44,000 on Iberia. Booyah!

Based on what you are sharing, just transfer straight to your Iberia account and book from there. However, if all your miles are sitting in a BA account, transferring from the BA account to an IB account requires that the IB account be open at least 3 months if I remember correctly. (google this and you should find the info on this)
