I messed up - help needed getting from Prague to Florence

Before I start, yes I know I messed up but I thought I'd done everything right when organising our itinerary for Europe.

We are planning on going from Prague to Florence and had allowed time for an overnight train (which I thought operated with a stop on the way), but now I'm trying to book and the trip is saying it'll take a minimum of 20 hours on a train - far too long.

What I'm asking for is a suggested route between the two cities, allowing for an overnight stay along the way. I've had a look and Prague>Munich>Florence made sense, but the train from Munich doesn't leave on the day we need it to.

I've also looked at flights and there are none that run direct between Prague and Florence.

We check out of our Prague hotel on Oct 6 and can check in to our Florence hotel on Oct 7.

If anyone has any suggestions for the most direct way to get from Prague to Florence I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance!

While it is true that there are no direct flights, there are flights with one transfer that take less than 3 hours in total. Eg. Lufthansa via Munich. What is the problem with that?

Regarding train travel, what are you using for planning?

There is a day time connection that takes about 14 hours. Leave in the Morning, via Munich, and. there also a night train via Vienna and Bologna.

So you see there are some options. Have a look at www.bahn.de for schedules. Have a look at www.seat61.com to learn how to book this.

What websites are you using for your train tickets and your flight information?

Hi Emily,

Rome2Rio was the main site I was using.

I've found another train option thanks to an answer above.

The Pisa airport has more flights than Florence. There may be non-stops to Pisa. Another possibility is Bologna. It's a bit farther from Florence, but there are lots of fast trains between the two cities.

I use Skyscanner.com to search for European flights.

FYI, Bologne to Florence takes thirty minutes. They blasted tunnels through the mountains for the fast train. It’s faster than most people’s commutes.

From Prague to Florence is one of those routes that just doesn't exist.

You could take a Wizz Air flight into Venice and take a train from there. Or you could take a Ryanair flight into Treviso and take a 40 minute bus ride into Venice.

That's the best you can do without doing one or two connecting flights.
