Husband in cowboy boots

My husband always wears cowboy boots but I am trying to get him to buy a good pair of walking shoes for all of the walking we will be doing in Europe. He insists he will be fine in his boots. I am sure he will be the only one in cowboy boots. LOL
Should I keep after him to get walking shoes or let it go?

Let him do what is comfortable for him. You will not win that fight. And he will be in the minority but not the only one.

Does he do a lot of walking on cobblestones in his cowboy boots? Does he do a lot of walking in general? Never been to Dallas, but I picture it as the kind of city where most everyone gets in their car to drive down the block to buy milk.

I wouldn't completely discourage him from bringing his cowboy boots, but he shouldn't just bring 1 pair of shoes. Even well broken-in shoes can sometimes give you a blister if you do more walking than you are normally used to, or shoes get wet if it's a particularly rainy day. Make the compromise - let him bring the boots, but get him some shoes.

He will be SO COOL! My German exchange students were all over wearing "cowboy boots" but your husband will be (I gather) wearing well worn comfy boots that he can walk in all day and into tomorrow. This will be a delicious entree conversation wise. Really, most people are good natured and yes, they are interested in "Western Cowboys". If he can walk all day in Texas in boots he can walk all day in Europe. Stinkywise tip...Bring along some fabric softner sheets and put one each in, well, everybody's shoes at night. One sheet good for a week. Remember they already know you're an American....revel in it because we really are in this whole thing together! HAPPY TRAVELS!

As long as he is comfy he will be a fine. Comfy is key, Cowboy boots will be hot though, but if you are from Dallas he will be fine with that.

You know, it's a great conversation starter. I actually wear a baseball cap most of the time outside because of (ahem) "thinning" on the top. When in Europe, I wear ballcaps from my alma mater. It's amazing how many people I meet that way.

Jill, when you walk into a bistro or a nightclub and all the conversation stops and it gets real quiet, it'd be a good idea to break the tension by whistling the theme to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."

Oh, and then buy everyone drinks.

He won't be the ONLY one in cowboy boots. They are in fashion in Italy...however I doubt that your honey's boots will be high fashion designer ones. I say let him wear his boots. I think it will be good to be a traveler who is being true to himself rather than blending.

Europeans love the whole "wild west" genre. More so than even Americans do these days:) Thus, cowboy boots will make him quite popular. From a practical stand point, it's best to wear footwear that is well broken in, even it if they are not appropriate to the climate. Feet are very sensitive new footwear.

I think he will look cool! And i am sure it will start lots of conversations, my son wore Heelys in Paris the first year they were out, you would not believe how many people stop us to ask where we had gotten them.

Not only will he be "in", he'll probably be alot more fun to be around. His feet are used to the boots. If he tries to wear some other types of shoes his feet will probably be less comfortable, making him less happy and less fun to be around. Plus, with all the positive attention he'll get from the boots, he'll be the star and he should be the happiest guy in Europe! Expect alot of photo ops!

In fact, with all the comments I've read above, he may have convinced the rest of us guys to consider getting boots for our next trips.

I wear my cowboy boots (handmade in Arizona) almost every time I wear jeans. I've never heard anything negative, except that at work they commented once that they liked that I wore cowboy boots as it made me more American. Go figure! I second James, they are very in here right now, I doubt anyone will say anything.

Yep - I'm another one in favor of the cowboy boots. And even if his fee hurt, I assume he'll do the typical husband thing and never mention it!

If the shoe fits, wear it. This advice comes to you from a man who wears Crocs to formal nights on the ship and has put about 10,000 happy miles on his feet across several European countries.

I wear cowboy boots 90% of the time and I could not even imagine wearing them in Europe. But let him wear them, but when you get there be on the lookout for shoe stores in case he changes his mind.

And Ceidleh, you have it right about going to get milk!

My dad used to wear cowboy boots in Europe when we lived there (before he found Mephistos.) No-one ever said a THING or even gave him a mean side-eye. Let him wear the boots.

Just curious...will he be wearing his cowboy hat as well?

Thanks for all the response sounds like my husband might be right in style in Europe. Of course I was more worried about his comfort with all the walking than him looking out of place. I could care less about that everyone will know we are tourist anyway. LOL He wears boots with rather high under slung heels and says he will be fine walking in them on the trip. I am not so sure. I wish he would buy some walking shoes with soft soles to take along,
just in case. I know he would be too proud to buy shoes in Europe or wear something I picked out even if his feet were killing him.
He will probably end up out walking me. We spent a week at Disney, Sea World and Universal walking and standing in line all day in the heat. He never complained once if the boots bothered him.
thanks again
Jill

Hey, he's a Texan -- he can wear boots anywhere he wants!:) He'll be fine if they are as comfortable as walking shoes. My dad always wore his cowboy boots wherever we went (and his hat also). I vote for whatever is more comfortable for him.

I've got family in Texas. They wear cowboy boots all the time and everywhere. But then, they don't believe in walking. Let your hubby wear the cowboy boots. Then after he's pounded the pavement for a day or two in boots with no cushioning, he'll be more than glad to stay in the hotel room nursing his bruised and blistered feet while you go shopping (or exploring) on your own!

I love this topic! I hear cowboy music playing in my head when I read these replies! Lol!
As a Texan myself, I also say, go for the boots, and have a great trip!!

Another vote from the Lone Star State.
Wear those boots and have a great time!
Happy trails and happy travels!

As long as he's not mixing the boots with his Hawaiian shirts, he'll be okay. I keep telling myself that I'm going to buy a pair of cowboy boots but can't quite bring myself to take the leap. Europeans view Americans as cowboys to some degree anyway. It's much better when we actually are cowboys.

And, don't wear them with shorts!!!!!!!! Lol!
