My wife and I have already decided on the amount of travel insurance we want to purchase, with our main considerations being medical coverage and medical evacuation. We now have identified three companies that we are considering: Travel Insured International, AXA and Trawick If you have had any experience with getting claims handled by one of these travel insurance company please share your insights with us. Thanks very much.
I haven't used those companies, but all three are providers on the Insuremytrip site and each company has 1000+ reviews - click on the provider name, then "read all reviews" under the star rating https://www.insuremytrip.com/travel-insurance-providers/
Squaremouth has similar review pages https://www.squaremouth.com/travel-insurance-reviews
We recently had to submit a medical claim through Trawick due to a injury while on a trip. We were happy with the results, but the process is slow. Key thing is to keep all receipts, paperwork regarding diagnosis and treatments, and if requested, be prepared to submit a copy of your credit card statement showing the charges incurred. The overall process from submission to finalization took 6 months. However, the main portion of the claim was paid out in about 15 weeks, and to their credit, Trawick reimbursed a small amount later for something we overlooked resulting in the 6 month finalization. Overall we were pleased.
If I recall, we purchased this through Squaremouth as it was fairly easy to compare policies from different vendors.
We used Travel Insured International in 2025 for our trip to Scotland, which I purchased on Squaremouth.
My wife got sick and spent 5 days in hospital, which extended our trip. Once we got the NHS bill, TII paid it right away.
It took an extra 2 months to assemble and submit the additional information they wanted. Their forms asked for additional expenses beyond our original leave date. However, they only covered the additional expense for the flight home. This was what was specified in the contract conditions. After rereading the contract language, I was satisfied with the reimbursement.
Their medical advisor, "Robin Assist", was great at informing me what I would need for the claim, i.e. medical diagnosis, doctor's order fit to travel, etc.
